Apostle’s Symposium – Foundation for Increase
by Emmanuel Mbakwe
A symposium to consider the subject of Apostleship took place in October and addressed a number of fundamental questions including; Who or What is an Apostle? What does the Bible say? What can we learn from Church history? What can we learn from our history as a Movement? What can we learn from other denominations who have men whose ministry is undoubtedly that of Apostleship? And where do we go from here?
God met us in a remarkable way. Pastors John Waller, Ceri John and Eric Horley laid the foundation for the times of reflection and dialogue that followed. The conclusion was reached that an Apostle’s ministry and function is fundamentally future-focused, ultimately, driving towards God’s eternal purpose for the Church. Particular mention was also made of the conjoined nature of this gift of the ascended Christ with that of the prophet. The challenge is to seek through prayer and moving by faith, a fuller release in our Fellowship, as the foundation for growth and expansion.
We are now seeing a measure of what God is saying to us. Apostolic Houses or Centre Churches are emerging and growing stronger. Leadership gifts are being identified, discovered, birthed, developed and deployed, with greater deliberation and intentionality. A foundation is being established for increase.
